Facilities

The Meccawe Club is a family-friendly fishing club located on a beautiful 11 acre pond surrounded by 700 acres of woodlands. The only structures visible are the clubhouse, the club manager's cabin, and some small storage buildings. Our only immediate neighbors are moose, deer, grouse, otters, beavers, osprey, ducks, geese, and other wildlife. There is a nearby snowmobile trail system that provides places to hike in the summer. The Pond
The pond is a natural pond that has been dammed and dredged to a maximum depth of about 16 ft. It has two feeder streams, plus several springs to help it remain cool. The pond is stocked yearly. There are 8-9 rowboats and a dock for member use, but there is also a large cleared shoreline with easy fishing access. Fishing can be done with flies, lures, and worms, but other live bait is prohibited. No licenses are needed to fish at the pond.

Club House
Our Club House is a two-story schoolhouse that was moved to the site. The upstairs has 6 bedrooms that can be reserved by club members ($5 per night, guests $10 per night), plus a bathroom with shower. Linens are provided. Downstairs is a kitchen with two gas ranges, two gas refrigerators, pots and pans, silverware, etc. Members may use the kitchen at any time, and are responsible for providing their own food and cleaning up. There is also a gas grill outside for member use. Electricity is provided by a diesel generator, which members can turn on and off from the clubhouse.

Also downstairs is a dining room, a huge community living room with a large fireplace and firewood.(The clubhouse is closed in winter, as it is not heated.) A large screened porch with chairs and a dining area faces the pond. There is a telephone, but no television. (Ask Terry about the ill-fated antenna!) Outdoor spotlights light the parking lot at night, but otherwise there are few lights to block your view of the stars.

Outside there are Adirondack chairs, a picnic table, and a stone grill/fireplace. A small shed contains another set of bathrooms, and an outdoor sink where fish can be cleaned and bagged. Large areas of mowed open lawn allow space for members to set up games such as badminton.

A full time Club Manager is at the club from April through October, with members serving as volunteer caretakers on eight weekends during the summer.
